This rope screen has been made by the artist Edward Crumpton. They were made using four different thicknesses of hand tarred marlin rope and stretch onto a charred pine rectangle. Edward created a tessellated pattern with the rope, inspired by the structures of salt crystals found in Lymington Salt Marsh; a place where The Observatory buildings were located. This pattern was then knotted further to reveal the positive and negative cube shapes in the rope screen. Spinning this sculpture brings a three-dimensional form of the salt crystals to the artwork as well as creating interesting shadow lines around the space.
